Ife Law : Prima Strata set to host National Law Debate

PRIMA STRATA SET TO HOST OVER 20 SCHOOLS FOR THE NATIONAL LAW STUDENTS DEBATE.

The Prima Strata Club, the oldest organisation in the Faculty of Law, at the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, Osun state, is set to hold the 23rd edition of its National Law Students Debate.

The elite organisation, founded on 14 May, 1983, will hold the competition finale at OAU’s  famous 2 500 seater  Oduduwa Hall on Monday, 11th of June, 2018, subsequent to a preliminary stage which will hold on the 10th of June, 2018 at the new moot and mock court, Faculty of Law.

Some of the schools expected to participate in the two-day event include the University of Lagos(UNILAG), University of Ibadan(UI), University of Jos(UNIJOS), University of Abuja(UNIABUJA), University of Ilorin(UNILORIN), Bowen University, Lead City University, Babcock University, among others.

Jiboye Toluwani, the Count (President of the club) stated that the event is the most anticipated event right now among law students all over the country.

The Viscount (Vice President), Raji Olaoluwatobi also opined that the debate is a very good opportunity for law students from different parts of the county to engage their minds on topical issues while at the same time having the opportunity for networking and socializing.

The final day of the debate will have students giving opinions on the phrase "not to young to run"; a burning issue in the country Nigeria as of today.

The debate this year will be held in honour of the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice of Osun State, Dr Surajudeen Ajibola Bashiru and under the distinguished chairmanship of Professor Kingsley Moghalu, the former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and a Presidential Aspirant in the 2019 general elections.

Other dignitaries expected to be in attendance include Professor Remi Adeyemo, the Vice Chancellor, Lead City University, Chief Adegboyega Oyetola, the chief of staff, Osun State,  Hon. Justice A.O Akpovi, Delta State Judiciary, Mr Seye Kosoko, Group Company Secretary, FBN Holdings, Hon. Justice K. Akano, Osun State Judiciary, among others.

Prima Strata is a 30-member club of exceptional people admitted after a rigorous recruitment process on the strength of their intellectual prowess, moral fibre and character.

Its vision is to raise young lawyers; sound in the theories and procedure of law, upholding the standard of truth, integrity, equity and justice; lawyers with a very strong moral fibre, leaders who are committed to a life of excellence and positive change in their society.

9th Assembly: NASS Introduces Stringent Conditions For Journalists’ Accreditation

Ahead of the inauguration of ninth assembly, the National Assembly management has released 20 stringent conditions for journalists and media houses’ accreditation. In two separate letters addressed to the chairmen of Senate and House of Representatives Press Corps on Monday by the Director of Information, Agada Emmanuel, the requirements were categorised under permanent and temporary accreditation. According to the letters, this new accreditation guidelines shall come into effect from June 11, 2019. The prerequisites for the coverage of the activities of the National Assembly before the expiration of the present leadership was also aimed at reducing the number of journalists covering the legislative arm. Sri Lanka: Buddhist leader stokes anti-Muslim tension A manhunt is on in Sri Lanka for a hard-line Buddhist leader after a series of attacks on mosques and Muslim-owned businesses that authorities accuse him of encouraging.
