OAU MSSN : SUN SET IN THE EAST by Kamoru Sodiq




Acceptance statement by Kamoru Sodiq, Amir, MSSN OAU Branch, January 27, 2019.

In the name of Allah. The sustainer and cherisher of the world. The giver of dominion. Blessing and salutation upon noble prophet Muhammad (SAW), his household, his companions and those who follow them in righteousness till the last day. Amin.

I'm grateful to Allah for this moment. I am truly humbled that the shuura committee in its reserved wisdom has so appointed me to lead the Great Ife Muslim students for the second time. The official announcement made this last juma’h service was the moment majority of the Muslim students on campus had been waiting for. We shall deliver to the best of our ability.

The title of my speech is symbolic. It simply connotes our travail so far as a society. Looking at what the society was before, what it was at another time and what it is today. Alhamdulilah. At the end of every tenure, we are gathered here to perform the  orderly transfer of duty. This is a trust we owe our dear beloved society (MSSNOAU). MSSN is a students project. It belongs to students and remain with them all.

It is an open secret to say that MSSN-OAU has been rejuvenating for some years now. Things are getting stabled and structured. The momentum is gathering. The forces are coming back together and the hope is near. We are conscious of the fact that these are trying times. We could see those dividing lines. We understand the need to consolidate the existing harmony  and  togetherness at this point in time.

No doubt, we still have elements of nay-sayers here and there within the system. Let us put the past behind us. No society can exist in isolation. Just as they say, together we stand, divided we fall. We pledge as an administration to listen and embrace all accross the line of the divides. What we desire for the society extends to all. Today’s handing over however is unique. Luckily, We are fortunate to have been led in the past years by our dedicated Amirs.

On behalf of Obafemi Awolowo University Muslim students (MSSNOAU), I salute your vision, courage and boundless sacrifices towards that united and progressive society. I say Jazaakumullahu khairan to all of you.

Before now, our concern is to have a  recognized Muslim students body on campus. Today we are talking about our moving forward. That is a measure of how far we have come and I am committing myself and my energetic team of executives to that task, In Sha Allah. This time around we need to reflect and restrategize.

We cannot give a blind eye to the challenges ahead. We feel the frustration and agonies students are passing through. We see the conspiracy consuming Muslims on campus. We will work to alleviate these ills to the best of our ability. On the hall mosques closure, the good news is that all the stakeholders are working round the clock to ensure that it is renovated and reoponed inshallah. we would ensure to make it to pass with everything possible and necessary. Hall mosques will be opened by Allah's grace.

Here, I want to thank the entire Shuura committee members and its chairman for a wonderful job. My special appreciation goes to our chief Imam, Professor Abubakar Abefe Sanusi. The man with many caps of honour. You shall remain blessed sir. I equally appreciate  Prof. A.A. Rahman. The living legend. Thank you sir. I must not forget to celebrate and appreciate the chairman OAU Muslim community, Prof A.O. Aransi. I would also like to thank all our staff advisers. We cherish your fellowship and attention at all. May Allah reward you abundantly. I salute all the past Umurah (Presidents) and executives of this great society. Permit me to salute my past executives. They are all beautiful people. Thank you.

We also wish to thank all our respected central mosque Imams, the caring Obafemi Awolowo Muslim community, the ever-supportive Unifemga, MSSN highier hierarchy. IFE Muslim community, various Muslim faculty groups and heads, the generality of Obafemi Awolowo University Muslim students at large and every well meaning stakeholders.

Obafemi Awolowo University managements, we really appreciate your support. We would open our hands to viable ideas to take the society to the next level.

We seek your cooperation and support as usual. We shall strive to give the society a new face lift. MSSN OAU must be great again.

9th Assembly: NASS Introduces Stringent Conditions For Journalists’ Accreditation

Ahead of the inauguration of ninth assembly, the National Assembly management has released 20 stringent conditions for journalists and media houses’ accreditation. In two separate letters addressed to the chairmen of Senate and House of Representatives Press Corps on Monday by the Director of Information, Agada Emmanuel, the requirements were categorised under permanent and temporary accreditation. According to the letters, this new accreditation guidelines shall come into effect from June 11, 2019. The prerequisites for the coverage of the activities of the National Assembly before the expiration of the present leadership was also aimed at reducing the number of journalists covering the legislative arm.
