Great Ife died Tonight

Tonight would forever remain fresh in the minds of hundreds of students of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife where the University's PRO came out of his car slapped a student of the university during candlelight of a fellow student and while still leaving at SUB nearly crush the legs of another student as he made some furious turning and sped past us.

Past 8:00PM, students in large numbers left Biological sciences with candles as we marched to OAU Health Centre where Omotola Akorede died on Friday due to negligence and incompetency of workers at the hospital. Akorede was given normal saline (drip) whilst suffering from cardiac arrest, and a nurse at the hospital still came out saying "Don't post on Social Media that he died here, say he died on the football pitch" and that was what the school management still released in their circular.

Today while singing different songs and showing our grievances, School security came and while marching out, the school PRO stopped at Fajuyi hall entrance, simply because he was provoked with the songs we were singing and the fact that there is a standstill of traffic, he came down and started spewing trash on students which provoked all the students.

We did not touch him but he called security and all of a sudden came out of his car and slapped another student simply for cursing the school. Students of OAU still showed how cultured we are by not even laying a hand on him. We challenged him intellectually and he showed his hooliganism and spirit of thuggery by assaulting several students.

Students later converged at SUB where several activists spoke to the students on the way management has been killing the voice of the students, lack of proper welfarism, bad living conditions of students and the need for Student Union to be reinstated.

The same University PRO still came to SUB without showing any sign of remorse in company of others and while we asked him for the reason for his behaviour, he drove off recklessly almost crushing another students leg with his jeep.

OAU students needs to be enlightened that the management are not concerned about students - They still demanded  a sum of #150,000 just to bury Akorede at the School Cemetery. The management has failed to provide necessary equipments needed in our hospital, they failed to open ETF to accommodate students... Is this how we will continue?
