The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has won the latest round in the legal battle to compel Senate President Bukola Sakari and Yakubu Dogara, speaker of the house of representatives, to account for the spending of N500 billion as running cost for the legislative body between 2006 and 2016. On Friday, Rilwan Aikawa, a justice of the federal high court in Ikoyi, Lagos, held that SERAP’s request ought to be granted. “I have looked at the papers filed by SERAP and I am satisfied that leave ought to be granted in this case for judicial review and an order of mandamus directing and compelling Saraki and Dogara to account for the spending of the running cost and disclose the monthly income and allowances of each Senator and member,” he held. A suspected suicide bomber struck outside the headquarters of the Borno state command of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Sunday. The command is located in the Muna area of Maiduguri, the state capital. A source told TheCable that two female suicide bombers were responsible for the attack. The source said only one was able to detonate her explosive before security operatives moved in. The other suspect was reportedly shot dead. The incident happened around 6:30pm. Victor Isuku, spokesman of the Borno police command, said operatives from the explosive ordinance explosive disposal unit of the police have been sent to the scene. Suicide attacks is one of the main challenges confronting security agents on the frontline of the war against insurgency.

Following the increment in school fees of students of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has issued a-seven day ultimatum to the institution's management to reverse the fees, failure of which there will be a massive peaceful protest. Under the new fee regime released by the institution for the 2017/18 academic session, ND I full-time students, who are indigenes of Kwara are to pay N62, 700 each as against the N52, 500 that was charged last session. For non-indigenes ND I students, are to pay N84, 200 instead of the N72, 500 charged for the 2016/17 session. Additionally, the new intake are also expected to part with N5,000 as acceptance fees for indigenes and N7, 500 for non-indigenes. The Kaduna State Wing of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) on Thursday said they would shut down all public schools if any of its members is sacked by Gov. Nasiru El-Rufa’i. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the teachers’ union was reacting to the governor’s statement two weeks ago, in which he announced plans to sack 21,780 primary school teachers who allegedly failed a competency test and replace them with 25,000 new ones. Audu Amba, NUT Chairman in the state said at a press conference in Kaduna, that the union would embark on total strike if the government sack any teacher. Amba said that the decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the union executive council held on Thursday.
