OAU NUESA : 'Excos' shed more light on installation of signpost

✍🏻 *by Ayoola Ojo Oswa (NUESA Financial  Secretary) and Ayoola Adekunle Isaiah (NUESA General Secretary),  2016/2017 parliamentary session.*

   *14/02/2018.*

*It is no longer news that the recently installed signpost at Faculty of Education by the Socrates led Reformation Crew has ignited and triggered series of controversy, witch-hunt and character assassination ranging from overestimation of project cost to embezzlement of funds, hence this release to clear the committee members.*

_The journey of the controversial project started around November 2017 when the president, Socrates setup a five man committee (the general secretary, financial secretary, the deputy speaker, miss NUESA and the president himself) to execute the project. A whooping amount of #150,000 was approved for the signpost and #10,000 for it's installation._

*Even though the president setup a committee charged with the responsibility of  delivery the project, he never carried the committee members along. No committee member was with him when he went to negotiate on the cost of the signpost. The fund for the project was disbursed in two batches:*

_firstly, the financial secretary disbursed the sum of #105,000 (70% of #150,000) to the president on 27/11/17 for a start. The financial secretary later gave him the remaining 30% balance (#45,000) on 16/01/18 to complete the project. The financial secretary personally settled the Bricklayer that did the concrete work the sum of #14,000 on 18/01/18 from the approved fund._

_It would be recalled that the president never duly carried the committee members along all through the execution phase. The only time we went to where the project was being constructed together was when we went to pay the balance. The president never took us and other committee members along again till the project was completed. Whenever we informed him about our desire to go monitor the progress of the project work, he was always looking for excuse not to go with us. When we discovered his excuses were too much, we agreed on going to the place on our own. But before setting out on that fateful day (Friday 9th of February, 2018), we decided to call him. We called him for 3 consecutive times but, all to no avail. Since he refused to pick our calls, we decided to go there on our own. On getting there, we met the president and his *special adviser on all matters(SIEWEN).*  Seeing him together with SIEWEN coupled with his refusal to pick our calls got us angry and as a result,  we quarreled with them for more than 30minutes on that day before returning to campus. The message we are trying to convey here is that *SOCRATES* executed the project together with his adviser, *SIEWEN* and not the *committee members* and as a result, he only should accept responsibility for whatever *discontent* NUESITES have with the project._

_Even though the financial secretary disbursed all the funds for the project,  we must admit we never knew anything about the bargain between Socrates and the contractor. Socrates bargained and negotiated the cost of the signpost behind us._

*It is on this basis that we charge NUESITES to hold Socrates responsible for any form of underestimation or overestimation of the project cost. If you feel the project doesn't worth the cost, hold Socrates responsible and vice versa. Do not put the blame on the committee members as we know nothing about the project bargain and it's actual cost. Mr Socrates, you always tell us you are a saint for the fact that nobody can accuse you of siphoning NUESA funds but today, you have been accused of one. Come out and clear yourself openly or allow your name to remain a tattered particle.*

_*Our conclusion is simple. Whoever wants to enrich him or herself from the Association's purse should go on doing it but God will judge us all. Even though we had the opportunity of making money from NUESA by the virtue of my positions, we never thought of that because we knew a day like this would come. We are proud of our selfless services to NUESITES. We never indulged in any form of shady deal with anybody. Those corrupt guys who always claim to be good guys should face the music of embezzlement in as far as the signpost is concerned. We are guiltless.*_
