Why Unions Shut Down Obafemi Awolowo University

Workers at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), comprising Senior Staff Association Of Nigeria Universities and Non-Academic Staff Union Of Universities, shut down activities in the institution on Wednesday.
The workers, who trooped out very early in the morning, gathered in front of the senate building to protest.
Leadership Tussle
They alleged that “some powerful authorities appeared to be manipulating the issue of appointing a substantive Vice Chancellor for the university”.
As at the time the report was filed, the leadership of the two unions had been summoned to a meeting by the acting VC of the University, Professor Anthony Elujoba.
The OAU has been engulfed in union related crisis, since January over tussle for who becomes the next substantive VC.
It was until the intervention of the Federal Government in July that Professor Anthony Elujoba was appointed as the acting Vice Chancellor of the institution.
