Big blunder in New Awolowo statue revealed
Yesterday, the Governor of Lagos, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, unveiled The statue of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, first Premier of Western region (March 6, 1909 – May 9, 1987) but little did he know that he paraded a big fashion blunder.
The statue at the junction of Obafemi Awolowo Way and Lateef Jakande Road, Ikeja (Lagos) had the sage dressed in agbada adorned with a lace-up shoes.
Apart from being trained in the United Kingdom as a lawyer, Awolowo was a cosmopolitan man who would never commit such an error in real life.
The Oxford shoes could not have been worn by a style leader like Awolowo with traditional attires.
Only loafers or shoes without laces are worn by the Yorubas with traditional attires…
