OPINION : REINSTATEMENT OF OAU SU, TO BE OR NOT TO BE?

Image
REINSTATEMENT OF OAU STUDENTS' UNION, TO BE OR NOT TO BE? ARE WE INDEED READY FOR IT? By Ogundokun Doyinmola Joshua Ready or not, it is the right of students to have a body that represents them, a body gives them that voice of unification and purpose in all ramifications. Just like ASUU, NASU, SSANU, NAAT, COEASU, NLC, TUC, the Students' Union is also important as students have a right to peaceful assembly and association as enshrined in Section 40 of the Constitution. Thus,  it is only imperative that we start advocating for the reinstatement of the Union now as it's better late than never. HOW WE GOT HERE The management suspended the activities of the Union a year ago citing cases of violence and unruly reports contained in security reports. This report was aided by the political bad blood that existed between the Students' Representative Council(SRC) headed by Falayi Temitope(T-bams) and the Executive Council headed by Oyekan Ibukun(Dr IBK) which led to diffe...

When fathers are no more Spanking and Mothers refrain from indulging, We shall return. When the widow is no more blamed For her husband's Death And shaved of her precious Hair, When she no longer has to Sweat and drink the Bathwater of the Dead, We shall return. When governors put their Fangs back into its Place, And Presidents withdraw their Pangs into its Space, We shall return. When poverty evaporates to the world of no return, Death to the Hades where it belongs, When Zeus return to preside over the Waters And Poseidon Marches over to the Seas, We shall return. NATIONAL NASU PREPARES FOR MOTHER OF ALL STRUGGLE

NATIONAL NASU PREPARES FOR MOTHER OF ALL STRUGGLE Posted by Ogundokun Doyinmola Joshua Early this morning, members of NASU, NAAT and SSANU Obafemi Awolowo University Ile - Ife branch stormed the school's library sending both students and workers out of the library. The cause of this brouhaha, as was gathered by our correspondent, who was present at the scene is as a result of a sharing formula adopted by the Federal Government in the allocation of annual allowance worth #23billion sent to universities in the country. The directive from the federal ministry of education is that ASUU members should be given 89% while NASU, NAAT and SSANU should be given 11% which was perceived by the members of the three associations as injustice. Hence, in a bid to make their voices heard they embarked on a protest to lock the school's library, the school gate and stopped their members from working until a decision is made by the National body. Information reaching us is that members of th...

YORUBA MONARCH BECOMES AN EMIR

Image
YORUBA MONARCH BECOMES AN EMIR Why I Adopt ‘Emir’ Title- Oluwo Oluwo of Iwoland in Osun state, Oba Adbulrasheed Akanbi has declared his resolve to adopt the Emir title popularly known with Northern traditional rulers. Speaking at the installation and turbarning ceremony of an Islamic scholar, Sheikh Yahquub Abdul-Baaqi Mohammed as first Waziri of Yoruba land on Saturday, Oba Akanbi said he decided to now bear “Emir of Iwoland” because he wants to emulate the attitudes of northern Emirs. He said Yoruba traditional rulers lacks cooperation and expected royal characters saying the Yoruba Obas have been polarized owing to enmities. Oba Akanbi said until Yoruba Obas come together, shun enmities and backbiting, Hausas would continue to rule Nigeria. “I have decided to officially adopt E...

The university is yet to make official announcement to this effect. Below is the proposed academic calendar, as 'spotted' by our correspondent. Efforts to reach out to the Department of students' affairs proved abortive, as at the time of gathering this report.

'I can call myself Emir, If I... Oluwo

Image
Photo : Emir of Yorubaland with Emir of Kazaure As mixed reactions continue to trail the statement made by Oluwo Of Iwo, Oba AbdulRasheed Akanbi over the title of 'Emirship', the Royal father gave more reasons for his decision. 'When anyone calls me a King it's not problem which is an English meaning of Oba you can accept that, but when someone or I call myself an Emir which is an Arabic word for King there is rants all over ! What is our peoples problem with Arabic language ? I am a  king in Yorubaland willing, able and capable to lead the Yoruba race as a King/Emir/Igwe/Oba or call it Sarkin in Hausa or Fulani dialect for the unity of this country with one love. When an Igbo man sees me. He calls me Eze or Igwe,Hausa or Fulani calls me Sarkin and Yoruba's call me Oba .I'm a king from Yorubaland but I'm also an Emir,Igwe and Oba. When will a Yoruba man be able to relocate to any part of the North as a child or young adult and then emerges as a Senator ...
